Consultant Surgeon
Mr. Bohra is a Consultant Surgeon at University Hospitals of Derby and Burton NHS Foundation Trust. Along with Surgery in General, his special interest is Upper GI Surgery including oesophago gastric pathologies, Bariatric Surgery, and advanced laparoscopic procedures for benign and malignant conditions. He is a Fellow and Examiner of the Royal College of Surgeons, Edinburgh.
Earlier, he was an Assistant (Hons) Professor at Nottingham University, Honorary Associate Professor of Surgery for St George's University, Grenada and Senior Clinical Lecturer in Birmingham University. In his clinical practice he covers most General Surgical emergencies and traumas along with a broad spectrum of general surgical problems. He routinely performs most elective general surgical and GI (gastro-intestinal) procedures like hernia repairs, cholecystectomies and endoscopies, along with his sub specialty procedures.
His surgical training and experience spans over 30 years. He did surgical research from Newcastle University. He was awarded the CCST after successful completion of Higher Surgical Training and entered the GMC Specialist Register to start working as a substantive Consultant in the NHS, in 2005. During the course of his training he had the privilege of working in numerous District General Hospitals and Teaching Hospitals across England and Northern Ireland. At various times he has also operated as a Visiting Consultant Surgeon at the University Hospital Birmingham, University Hospital of Coventry and Warwickshire and Walsall Manor Hospital, while employed full time in his own hospital.
He has an active interest in teaching, audit and research with regular satisfactory appraisals and Revalidation as a Consultant as per the DOH guidelines. He has published in various Peer reviewed journals and presented at both national and international forums. On a national level, he was a member of the Quality Statement Advisory Committee of NICE and has 23 NICE Quality Statement Guidelines with his contribution. He has been a National PEER Reviewer for Upper GI Cancer services.
As a Consultant Surgeon he has performed various roles including surgical lead for the Clinical Guidelines Committee, Clinical Lead for Upper GI MDT, member of the New Interventions Approval Committee, Royal College Surgical Tutor, and Clinical Audit Lead. He was a special invitee at the All Party Parliamentary Group at The House of Commons.
Married and a father of 2, he has avid interest in sports and yoga. He has multilingual fluency in 5 languages.
With over 30 years of surgical training and experience, Mr. Bohra specialises in minimally invasive procedures for both benign and malignant conditions. His practice covers a broad spectrum of general surgical and GI procedures, from hernia repairs to complex bariatric surgery.
He routinely performs elective and emergency general surgical procedures, along with his sub-specialty procedures in Upper GI and Bariatric Surgery. All laparoscopic procedures are also offered in the open form.
